Released July 2010, "Before the Snow Flies, Lando Banager'sTales of a Woodland Project Manager" is a soft cover storybook that entertains as well as educates children to the value of project planning and control. Nook and Kindle versions have recently been added.
In this book for children ages 6 and up, Lando Banager, a beaver with an uncanny ability to get things done on time, shares his secrets of Project Management with his new beaver colony. As children read along they not only pick up the key words and concepts of Project Management, but see why it's important to plan out a project. Lando takes his colony through a Project Management Plan to build their dam and a lodge before the snow flies and the wolves come.
OVERVIEW
"Before the Snow Flies, Lando Banager's Tales of a Woodland Project Manager" takes a different approach to learning and teaching project management skills. By weaving the essence of some key project management skills into an entertaining story children and adults can learn what project management is truly about.
Kids learn the basic concepts of Project Management which are really life skills that can be applied to most if not all projects. Besides the basic technical skills such as scheduling and project control, the "soft" skills such as Leadership, Teamwork, Communication and Organization are discussed.
The story follows an "eager" beaver named Lando Banager and his quirky colony of beavers - his team - as they set out to build a dam and lodge before winter sets in. Lando and his project team are shown below. Each team member brings their own personality into the story and are evenually convinced of the value of Project Management.
Along
the way they introduce the Project Roadmap, list Requirements and
Deliverables, define the Work Breakdown Structure, create a Project
Schedule, and much more. They even create a Risk Log (yes,
it's an
actual wooden log) and then follow the schedule though challenges such
as bad weather and wolves. The
book is loaded with color illustrations and drawings showing
each
concept - as Lando would draw it: sketched in the sand by the shore!
It's best read with an adult who can answer questions
and
review the lesson summary at the end of each chapter.
